Student Involvement.
Through the completion of this supplement to the Green School Initiative, we yearn to integrate both classroom standards and environment issues and solutions in order to create a first-class, eco-friendly institution.
OverviewIn striving to extend that Green School Initiative to all areas of academic concentration, students enrolled in the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program have independently brainstormed, researched, and presented ideas in making Kent County High such an environmentally-friendly place. These concepts, though in final stages of inaction, will require much time and dedication. However, the end result will most definitely be deserved; as Kent County contributes its share in the creation of a, "green," planet.

Student Projects
A group of our STEM students conducted a research project where they were given the task of creating ideas that would significantly reduce amount of energy the school uses. Their ideas had to be well thought out with plenty of research and data to back their claims. Once their projects were completed, they were placed in front of a selected group of members; including a county Commissioner, board of education members, their principal, and a few others where they were given the opportunity to present their solutions create a better Green School.
To the left is one of the student's projects who conducted her research on the efficiency of the recycling that occurs at our school. She collected and recorded the weight of each recycling bin in each wing of our school. She found the average weights and calculated the actual amount of solid waste our school recycles. From this data, she formulated a plan that would increase the amount of objects we recycled.

Color Cycle - Recycling Markers for a difference!
Below is the email confirmation of 9lbs of markers sent to Crayola!!!
Paperless classrooms - more the normal then the exception, students carry less paper and can quickly access what they need and the resources to be consistently successful!
As explained on the page listed by clicking on the button below, students use recycled materials in their art very often and actually excel at it!
So what do we do to make sure what goes in the bin is right?
Students who recycle designed very basic signs - they argued about what they should look like and how much info should be on them. They decided that the signs should be simple because there isnt much they need to have people read about recycling - the shorter it was the better it would be. Bottom line? These folks are tired of pulling trash out of the bins!!!
